Go to Spelvia and meet with Rolan. He will ask you to venture into the darkness to defeat the Dark Lord. Leave Spelvia and fly to where the Cestus is beached. Embark on the Cestus, save your progress with the Adventurer at the entrance, stock up on any last-minute gear and then you need to sail to the black spot in the sea. Remember that you do so by heading to the palace tower and investigating the pedestal in its entry room.

Your destination's location is in the large area due south from Urbeth, just to the right of the map's vertical and horizontal center. To get there by sea, sail south from Liberte Town until you come to the shoreline on the north side of the map. Sail west from there to find an inlet and then sail south while keeping an eye on the map so that you make your way along that course to the area where the black aura emanates from the ocean. As you pass over, you'll appear within the new area and a voice will taunt you. This is the Star Chamber.

Check your character stats and you'll find that your abilities have been removed. You can still equip magic (and should), but your most precious capabilities are lost to you. None of your crowns can be equipped, so at first you'll have to make your way through the dungeon without that helpful support.

Start by heading straight forward to the staircase, which you should descend to floor B1. You'll appear in a dark corridor in the center of a four-way intersection. Use a torch to light your way through this area as you begin by heading up to find a treasure chest that contains Phoenix Down. Then head back down to the intersection with the stairs and head left. In that direction, you'll come to a swirling portal. Step on it to appear in a new chamber with a boss monster: Belphegor. Equip Flame Shield items if you have them, then do battle.

Boss Battle: Belphegor

Begin this battle by having the appropriate character cast the Lux spell. That'll boost your defenses and give you a fighting chance against the monster. Remember that he uses fire-element attacks, so you'll need to wear equipment that can block most of the harm from that element. Then focus on taking out the cubes with your most powerful attacks and water-based magic as you maintain your character's supply of health. Eliminate the cubes and you'll be free to focus on Belphegor himself, who shouldn't present much difficulty.

When you defeat Belphegor, you'll recover the White Mage and Black Mage crowns. Those are important crowns, so we suggest that you head back right to the stairs and climb out of the dungeon, then save your progress by beaching to the northeast, just shy of Urbeth. Talk to the Adventurer on the Cestus, then take off again and return to the Star Chamber.

This time, when you descend to the four-way intersection, you should head to the right from the stairs. There, you'll find another portal. Enter it to do battle with another foe: Asmodeus.

Boss Battle: Asmodeus

Now that you have your Black Mage and White Mage crowns, the path to victory in this battle should be fairly obvious. As before, your White Mage should start by casting the Lux spell, then the rest of your party members (as Black Mage characters, if possible) should cast their most powerful magic. Remember that Amodeus likes to use spells that inflict status ailments, so try to bring gear to the battle that can help defend against that. It's vital that your White Mage remain in good shape to cast healing magic, so equip that character with the Light Shield, if nothing else. Asmodeus uses attacks of the fire element, so any other characters should keep flame-retardant gear equipped.

When you win, you'll regain the powers of the Bandit, Bard, Merchant and Salve-maker crowns. Now return left to the four-way intersection again. You can head back to town to recuperate and save if you like. Then it's time to head down the stairs to floor B2.

Light a torch on this floor, which you'll find begins with another four-way intersection. Head up and into an open area, which is designed a bit like a maze with too many intersections to list in an organized fashion. Head through intersections that take you toward the lower left, where you'll find a treasure chest. Open it to obtain the Ribbon item. It blocks all status ailments. Equip it on the party member that suits you. Then return to the four-way intersection where you first appeared on this floor. This is a reference point for awhile, as you'll be returning here a few times.

For now, head right from the intersection, toward the far right wall, and you'll find an opening through which you can pass. Do so and you'll find a treasure chest. Open it and a Death Trap monster will attack. Defeat it and you'll obtain Kiki-ichimonji, a powerful sword. Head back left through the opening and back into the more open, maze-like room. Immediately head up along the path until you reach the top of a staircase. Descend it to reach floor B3, then head straight left (ignoring intersections) until you reach a staircase. Climb those to return to floor B2, then head right from there until you see a path leading into the back wall. Follow that path to reach another of the portals. Step onto that portal and you will appear in a boss chamber with Leviathan. Equip your water-element shields. Approach Leviathan and talk to him to initiate the battle.

Boss Battle: Leviathan

With water-defensive shields equipped, you should be able to defend against many of the attacks that Leviathan will use, at least enough that if the White Mage character casts Lux at the beginning of the battle and follows up with plenty of healing magic, your other characters can boost and use their spells to wreak havoc on Leviathan's life meter. The problem is that he has an instant-kill move that can hit anyone who isn't equipped with the most powerful gear available (the Ribbon that you found a short time ago qualifies). You may find yourself down a character or two rather quickly in that case, unless you have gear like the Death Cape to prevent such attacks. Aside from that wrinkle, the battle is fairly straight-forward. You don't have to worry about exposing each of the monster's heads the way you did when previously you fought Leviathan, as they're all exposed in this fight right from the beginning.

When you defeat Leviathan, you'll regain access to the Elementalist, Ranger, Fighter and Scholar crowns. Again, you can take an optional trip back to town to recover and save, if you like. Then it's time to return to the four-way intersection where you arrive upon first descending to floor B2.

This time, head to the lower left from that staircase, past where you found the Ribbon, to reach a descending staircase in that direction. Head right from the base of those stairs and you'll see an opening leading upward and into a large, enclosed area. Don't go into that opening, though it's an important opening to keep in mind when you're ready to face the boss of the dungeon. You can reach him right now along that path if you like, but we'll assume for now that you'd rather regain your other crowns.

Head right past that opening and you'll come to a fork in the path where you can proceed down or to the right. Start by going to the right. Head down, where the path splits left and right. Head left and down along the path as it curves back toward the right. You should notice an opening leading down through an archway, just barely visible along the bottom edge of the screen. Pass through that opening to find a short hallway with a portal on the end. Step on that portal to reach a boss chamber. Equip your Ice Shield gear on each character (unless you have better gear), then approach the boss and talk to her to initiate a battle.

Boss Battle: Mammon

This battle should be a piece of cake for you, with the Ice Shield gear equipped. Start by casting Lux, then have your White Mage keep everyone's health in good shape as you hit the witch with your most powerful black magic. You'll have to get in quite a few good hits to eliminate each of her powerful arms before you can go up against the witch herself, but the effects of the Lux spell should keep your party healed enough that your White Mage can easily pick up any slack. You should soon fall into a comfortable pattern that leads predictably to Mammon's demise.

Once you defeat Mammon, you'll regain the Party Host, Hero, Spell Fencer and Monk crowns.

Head back up toward the entrance to the large, enclosed area. Head left from there, then up along the enclosed area's left side to the base of a staircase. Head up and left from there, veering toward the left side of the room as much as possible while negotiating the passages, until you reach the far left wall and an opening. Pass through it and you'll find another portal. Equip the Darksteel Shield on each of your party members except possibly your healer (who, if you've been following this guide, has better gear equipped) and then engage the boss in conversation to provoke a boss battle.

Boss Battle: Satan

Unfortunately, this battle is made difficult because Satan spams the Arcane Force move. That move will deal severe damage to your party members, perhaps enough that they'll be dead even before the White Mage has the opportunity to cast the Lux spell in the first round (and before they even get to really attack, for that matter). If someone stays alive (like the healer, who hopefully has the best gear) then you can survive until the Demon Lord stance takes effect. Then you can hopefully sustain those attacks while buffing up your characters' health. You'll want to prepare them with Lux magic before Satan returns to his Sword God stance. Keep their health up through that stance, boost any black magic spell casting abilities and if everyone survives until the return of the Demon Lord stance, you may be able to finish Satan off in as little as one final round. If not, just keep battling and keeping up your party's overall health and eventually you'll win.

Once you defeat Satan, you'll regain the Dancer, Paladin, Alchemist and Shaman crowns. Head back into the area surrounding the large room with the staircase. If you head through the archway positioned along the top of that area, you can head right and down into a chamber to find a Fortune Egg in a treasure chest, or left and down to find the Hero's Will accessory. Then you should return to the large open area and continue toward its right center edge. There, you'll find another archway leading to the right. Proceed through it and along the path to find another portal. Hop into the portal to arrive at a boss chamber ahead of another monster. Equip the Flame Shield gear, then fight the boss.

Boss Battle: Beelzebub

Beelzebub hasn't changed much. Begin by casting Lux magic to make things go more smoothly, and make sure that you use spells to enhance any damage that your magic does. The Mighty Magic ability is your best bet here if you want to inflict severe damage, so rely on that and whatever you do, cast powerful magic if you see Beelzebub charging up for a special attack. For the most part, he'll battle you with fire-based spells that your shield should mostly eliminate as a threat, though he's also capable of strong physical attacks directed at a single party member. Keep everyone's health up and let the White Mage play the expected support role so that everyone else can worry about charging, boosting and casting powerful spells to quickly whittle down your foe's life reserves. Victory here should be all but assured.

Once you defeat Beelzebub, that should be enough to regain the last of your crowns, specifically the Dark Fencer, Seamstress, Beastmaster and Musician crowns.

Remember the large, enclosed room on floor B3 with the single descending staircase at its center? Once you've defeated all of the bosses that we've outlined, you're ready to enter that room. Step onto that staircase and you'll find yourself at the top of a long, spiral staircase. Head down it while dealing with random enemy encounters. At the bottom, you'll meet a handful of characters and also the traveling Adventurer. Save your progress with him. You can open the chest to the right to find an X-Potion item if you like, as well.

Descend the stairs in this chamber and you'll appear in a black expanse with floating red crystals. A starry path marks your way to progress. Follow along it to reach a circular cluster of light particles. Descend those to arrive on a lower floor. Walk left along another starry path until you reach an intersection where you can continue left or head down. Go with the latter option, as the left route is a dead end. You'll find more light that you can ride, this time up to floor B5.

Head up along the path and follow it left, where you can ride another column of light down to floor B6. Now head down and ride another column back up to floor B5. Continue down along that path and right to find yet another such column. Ride it down to B6 again, then head right and down to reach another column. Ride it down to floor B7, then follow that path down and to the left to reach a 'T' in the path. The lower path is a dead end, so head left and find another fork where you can head either up or down. The path leading up quickly comes to a dead end (after you ride a whirlpool of stars), so just ignore it. Head down and to the left, instead, where you can ride a column down to floor B8. From the base of that column, head up and around to the right along the starry path to more light. Ride that up to floor B7 and follow a short path to another column of light that you can ride back down to floor B8. Head up from there, and left along the path to reach another column. Ride that up one floor, then head up and to the right to reach another column of light. Ride it down to floor B8. Follow the next path toward the right, and then down to the floor B9, where finally you'll meet up with the dungeon's master.

Before you speak to him, make sure that you have equipped each character with the Dark Shield (or the Shield of Light, for your healer or some other fortunate party member). Speak to that enemy and you'll find that his name is Chaos. A battle begins.

Boss Battle: Chaos

Begin this battle, as usual, by casting the Lux spell. You really want your party members to be wearing the Dark Shield for this fight or they'll have a difficult time surviving, even with Lux in place. As for the actual strategy, it isn't really any different than usual. Have your White Mage character keep everyone reasonably healed by alternating between Healthgiver and Cure spells. Everyone else should focus on hitting with the most powerful attacks available, or healing in a pinch. Chaos fights with a whole range of spells, including the 'Stop' spell that can freeze a hero in his tracks for several turns. He also will use Darkaga magic to harm the whole group at once, Darkra to target attacks on one individual and Banishra to also hurt everyone. When you see Chaos spamming the Shell spell, it's time to make sure that your health is as close to full as possible. He's likely to follow that up with the Magicka spell, followed by a beefed up version of one of his most lethal spells that is capable of wiping out most of your party in one shot. If you're able to survive all of that, you can make it through the battle.

Once you defeat Chaos the first time, there will be a brief interlude where your heroes pant from the exertion of the preceding battle. Unfortunately, they won't be given time to recover. A voice calls to them, taunting them, and then Chaos attacks again.

Boss Battle: Chaos

You need to battle Chaos again now. He has a lot more power this time around. His Flyswatter attack can hit every party member for physical damage, while his elemental Tsunami, Blaze, Earthquake and Lightning magics ensure that no matter what shields you might have equipped, damage is going to happen. Begin this second match against Chaos as you began the first one: by casting Lux magic. That'll make it easier for your healer to keep the damage in check, alternating between Healthgiver and Cure magics. If you find your healer powered up and ready to cast Cure but no one in the party needs it, boost instead. You may need to save up for a Miracle spell if things go especially bad. Just keep up your health and you should be able to survive the final rounds where your foe regularly spams his most powerful attacks in a last-ditch effort to wipe out your party.

When the fight concludes, there will be a scene. Any party members who are weakened or dead will find all of their stats and their condition refreshed. Then it's time for round three.

Boss Battle: Chaos

In his third and final form, Chaos doesn't add much of anything to his approach to battle. You can win against him here as you did both previous times: by casting Lux and having your healer keep up party member health while the other characters focus on dealing their most powerful attacks. The only new move you have to watch out for, really, is the Big Bang that Chaos will use on occasion. He can and sometimes will use it twice a round, and it inflicts a lot of damage to all party members. That makes it crucial that you keep up everyone's health, just so an unlucky round doesn't result in the death of a valuable party member and knock you off your game. If you keep everyone in good shape, the battle can last as long as it takes to finally chip away at the last of your opponent's life. You've fought through the worst of it. Now finish the job!

Once the fight concludes, you'll need to step through a portal, then run back along the starry path that you followed to reach Chaos in the first place. Partway up, you can step onto a portal that takes you up to the ledge where you last saved with the Adventurer. There, you can hop aboard the dragon to exit the area and enjoy the game's rather lengthy ending.
