Witch's Mansion
When you enter the castle, you'll find soldiers lying on the floor ahead of you. You can talk to them for tips about navigating the area around you. Note that there are random encounters in this area and the monsters are pretty tough, so you may wish to battle some monsters in the surrounding environs before you try to go toe-to-toe with the ones inside the castle.
Once you're ready to brave the worst physical attacks those monsters can manage, which is easiest if your characters are at an average level of 5 or greater, it's time to start exploring.
Look to the room's upper left portion. You can climb some stairs and pass through a doorway to arrive in a new hallway. There, head to the right to find another weakened soldier. His unit is defeated but he lets you know that you should be able to find help in the form of the brave lady warrior that was traveling with the princess. Continue right past that helpful soldier and through a long hallway. Along the way, open a chest to obtain a Cure Tome item that your hero can equip for use in combat. You'll need to visit the 'Abilities' menu to do so.
Continue past the chest that contained the tome, through an archway that leads into a wider room. Along the bottom side of this room, there's another archway. Some stairs are located to the upper right from there. Ignore the stairs for a moment and pass through the archway to arrive on a balcony with two treasure chests. You may recall seeing it in the main room when you first entered the mansion. One chest holds a Potion and the other is a Mimic monster. Defeat it for the Steel Armor, and possibly other rewards. You should immediately equip the powerful armor on your hero.
Head back into the previous room and make your way to the stairs that previously you ignored. At the top of that staircase, head down along the next passage and follow it toward the left. The passage wraps around to the top of a descending staircase. There's a chest at the top that you can open to obtain a Phoenix Down item. Take that, then descend the stiars.
In the new chamber, head to the right to find a pedestal. Search it and you'll be asked if you wish to light the candle. Answer that 'Yes,' you would like to. Doing so will cause a door to open elsewhere in the area. Now you must backtrack toward the mansion's lobby area. In the same hallway where you found the Cure Tome a moment before, you'll now come across a girl who is battling monsters. Leap to her aid and you shouldn't have much trouble defeating the few thugs who have accosted her. Once they're gone, talk to her and she'll prepare to leave. Tell her to 'Wait!' and a conversation ensues. When it concludes, the brave warrior will join your party, making your little group a trio.
Now you can return to the lobby. Head toward its back side and you'll be able to pass through the archway that you find there. In the next room, head to the back wall to find a treasure chest. Open it to obtain Horne's Bow, a weapon that you can give to your newest party member. Also along that back wall, there's a locked door that you can't open just yet. Head along the back wall and just to the right of that door, there's a staircase that you can climb to the next floor.
As you arrive on this floor, head to the left. You'll find stairs there. Climb them, then head up along the new passageway until you reach the Adventurer character and his fox. Talk to them to save your progress, then enter the doorway behind them. In the next room, you'll see someone lying on the floor ahead of you. Rush over to her and talk to her. You've found the princess! After some discussion, she'll join your party. Start back toward the exit and your newly-expanded group will be attacked by Louhi, the Witch of the North.
Boss Battle: Greaps
You don't battle the witch herself, just a monster named Greaps. You'll quickly find that Greaps is particularly vulnerable to fire. You should have your warrior character mount a physical attack whenever Greaps is on the ground (or use healing items). Your two characters with Fire magic should spend their turns either boosting or casting the spell, and the princess should use her Cure magic to keep anyone's health level from dropping too much. As you battle, your foe will take to the air. When this happens, note that it can attack twice per turn, so be ready to take extra damage until it lands again (particularly from its 'Blast of Air' attack that strikes all party members at once for rather hefty damage). You may wish to have your hero boost or focus on using healing items until the enemy lands. Fire magic can still connect, though, so the two fire users don't need to change tactics at all and the princess should still focus on healing as needed. Keep battling and make keeping character health in good shape your priority. Once the battle has waged on for long enough, you'll inflict enough damage to win.
Now the introductory credits roll as the characters are greeted by a franchise staple. When that ends, you will receive the Wayfarer crown. Your characters will appear back on the dungeon map. Step onto the circle, as instructed, and the lot of you will be warped back to the world map, just outside of the witch's mansion. Now it's time to backtrack to town. Make sure that you equip the newly-acquired crown on a character, such as the princess. The other party members will walk you through the process, partway through the cave that leads back to town, if you need assistance.
When you get back to town, you'll find the townspeople unresponsive, though you can still save with the Adventurer. Head to the castle and make your way to the throne room. Ahead of the throne, there's a character you can talk to, who explains a bit more of the situation. At that point, two of the party members will go their separate ways, leaving you with two party members who will remain in Horne. Head back into the town itself and when you talk to the character standing in the street, he'll suggest that you may find a cure for the evil curse in Guera, a magic kingdom in the eastern desert. That's your next apparent destination, but the game has a surprise in store along the way.
